A fantastic flight from Lakselv to Tromsø high up in the north of Norway.

Shot throw the plane window.

Aeroplane windows aren’t always very clean, but the view is magnificent.

High up in the north of Norway at the southern part of the Porsanger Fjord, near Lakselv.

The climate is tough. Here, trees have to be strong and stand strong wind, cold and snow.

Here, on the beach, only the most hard trees stand.

A healthy Pine.

The right strategy in the wind is to bend low down. An old Pine with a thick stem.

Cloudberry. A bud.

The bud is bursting.

In order to imitate raindrops many photographers bring a spray bottle. But this is real raindrops. I was lucky.

Trollholmsund by the Porsanger Fjord in the north of Norway.

The mountain consists of dolomite which is sculptured into exiting sea-stacks.

The river Lakselva is in the north of Norway.

The snow is melting in the mountains causing a heavy spring flood.

I took these videos ten days later (choose 720p for better resolution)

Today we will take a car ride along the east seashore of the Porsanger Fjord.

Before, in the morning, I went down to the river bank to view the spring flood.

Look, the water level is high!

I will show you our route on the map.

Here is our route in detail.

Now, we are eager to leave.

This was the first thing that happened along the road.

Not an unusual sight in this region.

The reindeers are walking loose in the terrain. Therefore they sometimes dwell on the roads. But in most cases you see them. Their fur is white.

Suddenly we discover a waterfall.

We stop the car. I take many photos.

This photo was the best. exposure time is 1/25 second. Evidently a fine time to bring about motion in the water.

Two oyster-catchers on a stone.

Next sight.

Roddenes nature reserve.

Here is a lot of dolomite gravel which have formed itself into terraces along the seashore.

The gravel of the reserve.

We reach the village of Börselv.

Here the river Börselva meets the sea.

Here we turn left and continue along the coast on a smaller road.

Next surprise.

suddenly the mountains change color.

We have reached the zone of dolomite mountains which streaches itself across the fjord.

The dolomite seems to be porous since it has collapsed.

The village Mårnes lies beautiful by the sea.

The houses are beautiful to.

Same houses from the other side.

We can’t loose sight of those houses.

From another angle.

Further on we pass this farm.

The lonely barn.

Now, we are satisfied.

We turn the car and head for home.

We can see we are home again in Lakselv.

Surely this was an adventure.

One of many during my stay here up in the far north.

May 242006

We travel into the central of Lakselv.

Small communities aren’t always so pretty. But Lakselv is special. The high mountains are visible everywhere when walking in the centre.

You even see a mountain brook from the city main street.

More about the dominance of the mountains.

This was good. I could even zoom in the waterfall from the central city.

Tomorrow we will have a new adventure.

A long car ride along the east coast of the Porsanger Fjord.

What surprises will we meet?

This is the fotographic climax of the journey. That’s why here’s a lot of photos to see.

We start by telling where Stabbursdalen National Park is located.

Soon the adventure will begin. Our target is Stabbursfossen, a waterfall.

After a while we reach the river Stabburselva.

Here we have to pass on a suspension bridge. The dog Laika is scared to pass.

A lot of things will happen before we reach the waterfall.

Look, an eagle!

Niko likes to cool down the stomach on the snowdrift.

Now, we get a view of the landscape.

It’s rewarding to not only turn our heads to the side. Things are interesting beside our feets also.

As you see, the ground of the hill is covered with gravel. Is anything growing here?

Here’s a surprise.

The other side of the hill gives us this sight.

We walk on.

Here, up on the mountain the birch trees have a hard life. Today it’s calm, but as we understand the wind is able to blow.

If you are a little one maybe you aren’t able to raise up.

There is a lot beautiful to see.

Here in Stabbursdalen an unique pine forest grow. It’s unique because it’s the northerly outpost for many bird species.

I just had to take a photo of this pine.

Such a peculiar branch.

And now, at last.

We reach our target. Stabbursfossen.

This is the first sight.

Now we want to stay here and really look at the water.

Here’s the most dramatic photo.

We hardly dare to be here.

This picture is taken from above the waterfall. We see the place where the water rush down. (Don’t worry, we are on a secure distance)

Oh yes, know we are satisfied. We have really seen the fall.

We rest and eat.

Meanwhile, we point out the spring is here.

Now it’s time to turn back.

But we are not tired yet.

Not until we reach the car.

Really this was a long walk. 10 kilometers.

It’s obvious.

The dogs have been full of energy all the way. But know, even they want to rest.

And, what an adventure!

We will remember this a long time.

We are glad you joined us all the way.

Tomorow, we will see the midnight sun.

We have talked about going up on the high mountan right beside our house. But I feel it will be to hard. But, just a walk away to the mountain side would be a experience well enough.

So, of we go.

A peculiar thing I’ve wondered about is the waterfall which flow half way down the mountain and then disappear. Where is it going? Maybe we can sort this out if we go closer and take a look.

On our way forward to the mountain we find these last year lingonberries which have spent the winter under the snow. They taste fine.

A mountain birch.

When we turns our heads backwards we see this plane landing on Lakselv airport

Is it possible now to see where to the water flows in the waterfall?

We are closer now.

We can’t go close to it because it’s to dangerous. We can stumble on the loose stones and fall down.

Apparently the water flows down under the stones. And then a long way under the surface and comes up again further down the mountain side. The brook we find below the mountain must be our stream.

Now it’s time to go home. There, down by the river, we live.

Tomorrow we will visit Stabbursdalen National Park. Don’t miss it!

We are travelling to Karasjok. The city lays 80 kilometers south of Lakselv, near Finland.

In Karasjok many Samies live. The Samies mainly makes their living from their large herds of reindeer.

The area is located high up and the nature is barren. The birch forest is low and sparse.

The ice is still laying on the lakes.

Tomorrow we will take a walk to the mountain near our home in Lakselv.

Today we went out to take a look on Lakselv. We went to Skoganvarre east of the city.

We met this view of Lakselv and the mountain, the Porsanger fjord and the airport.

May I ask you to scroll the picture to the right?

The spring has come as far as this. A birch.

The airport is a construction wich dominates the city. It has a special story. During world war two the germans had an air base here. 30.000 german soldiers were stationed here in Lakselv.

Here, I’ve tried to capture how the high mountains everywhere reminds us of their presence. Again, the airport.

We found something surprising. The city has a bathing beach with wonderful fine sand.

All the memories from the war marks the city and the inhabitants a lot. When we went up to the mountain to take a look on the city we found this overgrown stair. An old german military camp.

Just beyond the stairs we recognized some scrap in the forest.

When we went closer we found this old rusty gasoline can.

What does the text say? We must to look closer.

“Wehrmacht”. It’s german and means “The Army”

This gasoline can has laid here for 60 years. It has been preserved because metals don’t rust so fast here due to the climate. Could it be, this gasoline can was used when the germans burned the camp? We don’t know. The germans burnt the whole city of Lakselv down. Yes, the whole county they burned when they left the area.

Tomorrow we will travel to Karasjok.

May 18-27 I visited friends in the north of Norway, in the little community Lakselv.

I flew from Oslo to Alta. From ALta to Lakselv I went by car. Here you will see some pictures from this car trip.

Here is the route.

The first thing I recognized when leaving the plane was the high mountains. Here you see the airport in Alta whith the mountains in the background.

The car journey took me high up in the mountains. This mountain landscape is called Sennalandet. Although it’s middle of May the snow is still laying.

It was a peculiar feeling to come from the spring in Stenungsund at the west coast of Sweden directly into the winter.

The last part of the journey went along the Porsanger fjord. Here is a view of the fjord.

Tomorrow we will investigate the surroundings of the city of Lakselv.
